Liddington Scottish Country Dancing Club

Who are we?

We are a friendly, enthusiastic, sociable group of dancers. The Liddington SCD Club was started about 30 years ago and we meet weekly in Liddington Village Hall on Thursday evenings between September and May Classes are led by a rota of Royal Scottish Country Dance Society qualified teachers and experienced members of the Group.

Newcomers are always welcome, so whatever your ability or experience, whether you are new to dancing or new to the area, you will be very welcome. Please see Newcomers link. Scottish Country Dancing is one of the most social forms of exercise, good for the body and the brain, and it's a lot of fun. If you are looking for a new way to keep fit but aren't into jogging or going to the gym, why not give Scottish Country Dancing a try. Studies have shown that dancing is one of the best forms of exercise, improving aerobic fitness, increasing muscle tone & strength and improving balance. No partner is needed and you just need to wear comfortable casual clothes and flat soft soles shoes.

Where do we meet?

Liddington Village Hall, Church Road, Liddington, Swindon, SN4 0HB
(Just on the edge of Swindon, around a 3 minute drive from the GWH Hospital & J15 of the M4)

The Hall is light & bright, has a high ceiling and a good suspended wooden floor, which is perfect for dancing. A professional sound system giving excellent sound reproduction for our music.
The hall has its own car park, so parking is not a problem.

Thursday evenings 8.00 - 10:00 pm. Beginners 7.30pm

Term Dates for 2023-2024 season

Fees

£35 for a 10 week session or £6.00 per night for 'Pay as you Go'.
Free Taster evening.

10-week beginners' course starts on 10th October 2024, £45 for the course.

Activities

Our Club holds a Christmas Dance Party and an End of Season Dance Party to which we invite other local Clubs.

Our Burns Celebration is held each year on the nearest Thursday to Burn's birthday, the 25th of January. We have the traditional dish of haggis, tatties & neeps and end the evening with dancing to the music of Ian Muir, leader of the Craigellachie Band. Ian will also be playing for our other social events.

Other Clubs in the area hold regular dances and our Club receives invitations and flyers for these events which are displayed on the Club notice board. Dancers normally arrange to go in a group to these events, both for social and car sharing purposes.
